AI Content — Generate Text & Images
AI Content helps you create content inside Flavor. With your own AI provider keys connected, you can generate text and images while building pages — without leaving the editor.
This is the outbound half of Flavor's AI. (The other half, AI Access, works the opposite way — it lets an AI assistant read your store.)
AI Content is a Flavor Starter theme feature (theme 7.4.0 or later). You manage its status from Flavor → Flavor AI → AI Content, and configure the provider keys in your theme settings under Flavor Options → AI.
Bring Your Own Keys (BYOK)
AI Content uses your own accounts with AI providers. You add your API key for each provider you want to use, and generation runs through your account. Flavor never charges you per generation — you pay your provider directly, on your own plan.
Supported providers:
| Provider | Used for |
|---|---|
| OpenAI (ChatGPT) | Text generation |
| Anthropic (Claude) | Text generation |
| Google Gemini | Text and image generation |
| Unsplash | Stock photography |
| Pexels | Stock photography |
You only need to configure the providers you actually want to use — for example, one text provider and one image source is enough to get started.
Setting it up
- Go to Flavor Options → AI.
- Paste the API key for each provider you want to use. (You get these keys from each provider's own dashboard.)
- Tick Enable AI to switch AI Content on.
- Save.
Once at least one provider key is in place, AI generation options appear in the Page Builder and content fields.
If you set a preferred text provider but only have a key for a different one, Flavor automatically uses whichever provider you have configured — so a single key still works.
Your keys are stored encrypted
When you save a provider key, Flavor encrypts it at rest (AES-256-GCM) in your site's settings — the key isn't kept in plain text. It's decrypted only at the moment it's needed to call the provider, and it's never exposed to the browser.
Encryption protects the stored value, but anyone with administrator access to your site settings can still use a configured key to generate content. Only give store-settings access to people you trust, and rotate a key with your provider if you believe it has been exposed.
Checking your status
Open Flavor → Flavor AI → AI Content to see, at a glance:
- whether AI Content is enabled, and
- which providers currently have a key configured.
From there, Configure providers (Flavor Options → AI) → takes you straight to the theme settings.
AI Content vs AI Access — which is which?
| AI Content | AI Access | |
|---|---|---|
| Direction | Your site → an AI provider | An AI assistant → your store |
| What it does | Generates text and images for you | Reads your store and answers questions |
| Who pays | You (your own provider account) | You (your own assistant account) |
| Where you manage it | Flavor → Flavor AI → AI Content | Flavor → Flavor AI → AI Access |
Think of it as: AI Content helps you make things; AI Access lets an assistant look things up.
